Training Quality Standard

TQS Achieved!

Calderdale College has been awarded the prestigious Training Quality Standard (TQS) in recognition of outstanding work in delivering training and development solutions to employers in Calderdale.

The Training Quality Standard is a rigorous assessment framework which recognises and celebrates the very best organisations that deliver high quality, high impact training and demonstrate commitment to continuous development.

In achieving accreditation Calderdale College joins a small number of colleges in the Yorkshire region in addition to prestigious organisations including BMW, Rolls-Royce and the FA Premier League, who have been awarded the Standard for their own in-house training.

Calderdale College has developed partnerships with local and national companies delivering high quality, bespoke training programmes. The College offers Apprenticeships and Advanced Apprenticeships in a number of skill areas including (but not exclusive of) Brick Craft, Childcare, Customer Service, Electrical Installation, Hairdressing, Hospitality & Catering, Joinery, Plumbing, Retail Financial Services, Sports Activity Leadership and Supporting Teaching & Learning in the Classroom.

Over the last three years success rates for Calderdale College Apprenticeships have seen continuous improvement, with numbers of those completing within the allocated timeframe increasing by 20%, surpassing the national benchmark by 10%.

The lead assessor for TQS Allyson Barton said “Calderdale College is a vocational college which strives to proactively support the local economy in Calderdale by working closely with employers, learners and stakeholders in an endeavour to best meet their needs. There is great pride in the College’s ability to work closely with its employers and the sectors in which it operates.”

“The staff at Calderdale College were relaxed and genuine throughout the whole assessment process and overall it was an extremely positive experience”.

Nicholas Worsnop, Chair of Business for Calderdale and partner at Chadwick Lawrence LLP, presented the award to Principal Chris Jones, Director of Calderdale Training Steven Porter and Project Manager Frances Wright at the College and said “The Training Quality Standard Award is a proud achievement for Chris and the members of staff at the College. It clearly recognises the diverse educational facilities our local College provides, not only to students themselves but as a facility for employers”.

“As Chair of Business for Calderdale, as well as being a local employer in the Borough myself, I have been honoured to present this Award and to highlight the excellent training the College provides to our local businesses.”

Councillor Janet Battye, leader of Calderdale Council, congratulated the College on achieving the TQS Award. She said: “I am delighted that the quality of the College’s work in supporting employers in Calderdale has been recognised by this award. The College is a key partner in delivering our economic ambitions for Calderdale.”
